Harry happy at last aboard the new Byron Aged Care bus

BYRON Bay Aged Care Facility has finally been able to buy its new bus, and no-one is more delighted than long term resident Harry Potts.

BYRON Bay Aged Care Facility has finally been able to buy its new bus, and no-one is more delighted than long term resident Harry Potts.

The new bus has a chair lift and, for the first time in many years, wheelchair-bound Harry, 78, will be able to join other residents on their twice- weekly outings.

This week Harry and the staff also celebrated his 20 years as a resident.

Lyn McBurney, activities officer of Byron Aged Care, will be driving the new bus.

"Not only will Harry be able to get on board but it will make it easier for those with walkers to get on the bus," she said. "The old bus was a bit of a bomb and the new bus is quiet and smooth."

CEO Margaret Geoghegan acknowledged the help the facility had received from Byron Bay Rotary Club.

"Chris Burke, from the club, was particularly helpful in helping us find and purchase a good quality second-hand vehicle," she said.

As for Harry, he is looking forward to taking a trip to see the ocean.

"He used to sit by the door waiting when the residents went out," said Ms McBurney.

"He's always a help around the place, keeping an eye on residents and he is always there when someone needs help."
