BYRON Shire Council is recommending the management of the Byron Bay Swimming Pool Complex (including the cafe) be awarded to Fishheads@ Byron for a further two years once their current lease expires at the end of this month.
The recommendation will go before the Byron Shire Reserve Trust Committee meeting today.
The trust was advised by Crown Lands that it could negotiate with Fishheads over the renewal of the lease, instead of putting it out for tender.
The "specialised nature of pool management" meant there would be limited persons with sufficient experience and skill to tender and a tenure of two years would be "unlikely to result in commercially acceptable tenders", the Trust resolved in its March 21 meeting.
The proposal would retain the same rental and management fees.
The Reserve Trust Committee will also today discuss a recommendation that the committee not call for tenders on community markets until the draft Market Policy is adopted.
