One of the state’s seaside tourism hotspots is jam-packed with community events, restaurants and pubs eager to welcome those searching at the 11th hour for a place to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
Whether pre-existing plans have fallen through or been cancelled at the last minute, or for those under the wire still trying to figure out how to celebrate the end of the year, here are some options in Byron Bay.
Soul Street Byron Bay
Byron’s main road, Jonson St, is set to close along with some surrounding streets on Tuesday to make room for the free, family-friendly Soul Street event in Byron’s CBD.
There will be live music, street dining, roving performers and children’s activities, organised by the Byron Shire Council, from 4pm until 9pm.
There will also be lighting installations and entertainment on the main stage at Dening Park from 6pm to 12.30am.
Byron’s town centre is an alcohol-free zone.
Attendees are advised to bring their own cups, plates and cutlery.
The roads will reopen about 8am on January 1.
Forest
Cystalbrook Byron will welcome guests to Forest restaurant, where patrons can sip champagne, enjoy live music and farewell 2024.
Marketing director Pascale Rocher said on New Year’s Eve, the venue would embrace the natural beauty of Byron with a relaxed yet elevated celebration, overlooking the rainforest.
“Guests can look forward to dining at Forest with a specially curated menu showcasing local and sustainable produce,” she said.
“For those after something more relaxed, our verandah is open all evening (for locals, visitors and resort guests) for casual snacks and drinks with views over the swimming pool and rainforest.”
There are four seatings available from 5pm, 5.30pm, 7.15pm and 7.45pm. It costs $165 for a three-course set menu, including a glass of Italian prosecco, on arrival.
A vegan menu is also available.
Three Blue Ducks
The Farm Byron Bay’s restaurant, Three Blue Ducks, is putting on a New Year’s Eve feast to ring in the new year with a welcome cocktail and three-course dinner.
Co-owner Jeff Bennett said the event would have something for everyone.
“The night will start with a casual stand-up drink and canapés, watching the sun go down behind Wollumbin (Mount Warning), then a beautiful set menu designed by head chef Sam Morton,” he said.
“We have free face painting for kids in the early part of the night, and then live music all night for drinking and dancing … for the grown-ups.”
It will cost $140 per person and there will be live acoustic music from 6pm to 10.30pm.
No Bones
One of Byron’s most well-known vegan restaurants, No Bones, is over the moon to be celebrating New Year’s Eve.
Co-owner Yasmina Cross said there would be local DJs setting the vibe, epic cocktails to keep the party flowing and an indulgent tasting menu or à la carte options (a choice of individually priced dishes for each course).
“Gather your crew and enjoy an unforgettable start to the new year,” she said.
Kicking off at 5pm and going until late, No Bones sets to ring in the new year with a fun, conscious celebration with plant-based goodness and sustainability.
The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co.
The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co plans to deliver an unforgettable New Year’s Eve celebration in the heart of Byron Bay.
Manager Aaron Lumb said the venue was thrilled to offer a mix of family-friendly and late-night options for guests.
“Guests will be greeted with a cocktail on arrival, featuring locally crafted Brookie’s Gin, to set the tone for an evening of exceptional food, drinks and entertainment,” he said.
“During the day we’ll have reservation slots perfect for families and from 8pm, we’ll transition to an adults-only celebration running until 2am.”
This year the event will feature local northern rivers DJ Paul the Hatter. Tickets are $50 per person. The balcony tables are booked out but inside tables are available.
Treehouse Byron Bay
Treehouse Byron Bay is welcoming those wishing to spend New Year’s Eve under the palms, to kick back with friends and family.
There will be live entertainment by the beach, a margarita on arrival, DJs until late and a fresh, locally inspired menu.
Indulge in Treehouse favourites such as focaccia, stracciatella, rocket and parmesan salad, wood-fired pizzas, dessert and more.
The event will run from 8pm to 1am and tickets are $109 per person.
Beach Byron Bay
Celebrate New Year’s Eve in style at Byron’s beachfront venue, where a three-course set menu will be prepared.
On arrival, there will be champagne and canapés while patrons enjoy the waterfront view overlooking Clarkes Beach.
Beach Byron Bay encourages diners to toast to the end of the year with family and friends as the waves roll in.
It costs $320 per person and there will be live entertainment.
Pixie
As the clock approaches midnight, Pixie promises to make sure diners are ready to celebrate.
There will be a live DJ spinning Italiano disco tunes to create the perfect soundtrack for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The evening will be filled with delicious food and great company in a champagne-filled atmosphere sure to make the transition into 2025 a memorable one.
Seats are $149 per person, which covers a multi-course dining experience showcasing modern Italian dishes.
Beach Hotel (The Beachy)
The Beach Hotel will host an event called Cheers to ’25 for the last summer party of this year.
It will feature a lineup of the best local bands and DJs to take partygoers into the new year.
Entertainment includes The Vybez Band, Makka Band, Izaeah Marsh Band, Animal Ventura and DJs from 6pm to 12am.
Pre-sale tickets are sold out but tickets will be available on the door.
The Northern
The Northern pub will be celebrating new year’s eve with music and dancing, featuring artists Kane Muir, Marshall Okell, Dueling Piano Residents and DJ Danny B.
The front bar will be open from 6.30pm until late, with live blues and soulful tunes to keep patrons hooked all night. In the backroom, the DJ will start from 9pm until late.
The well-known piano bar will be running for singalong fun and piano battles, with general $30 tickets and $100 piano bar tickets available at the door.
