Byron Shire wedding celebrant Adam Magnus faces Lismore court charged with grooming 11-year-old girl

A Byron Shire wedding celebrant whose wife organised Margot Robbie’s weddings has pleaded guilty to grooming an 11-year-old girl. Here’s the latest.

A Byron Shire wedding celebrant who rubbed shoulders with celebrities has pleaded guilty to grooming a 11-year-old girl.

Adam Magnus, 62, faced Lismore District Court charged with using a carriage service to procure a child younger than 16 or sexual activity.

The Lennox Head father-of-four adult children exposed the child to indecent material in February last year “with the intention of making it easier to procure the child for unlawful sexual activity”, court documents state.

Mr Magnus appeared in his prison greens on Monday and has been bail refused since his arrest in March.

Magnus’ legal team are compiling their case ahead of a sentence hearing in December, his barrister Megan Cusack told Judge Jonathan Priestley.

Prior to the criminal charges, Magnus performed ceremonies for famous actors, models and elites alongside his wife Jane Magnus, tying the knot for supermodel Stephanie “Bambi” Northwood-Bly in 2014.

Magnus’ wife Jane runs Byron Bay Luxury Weddings that provides “bespoke” weddings to the rich and famous in the Byron Shire and hinterlands, with Magnus sometimes performing the ceremonies.

Mrs Magnus organised the wedding of movie star Margot Robbie’s Byron Shire wedding in December 2016 at the Coorabell Estate.

Magnus was not the celebrant at that particular ceremony.

Mrs Magnus is not accused of any crime and has continued the ritzy Byron Bay wedding business while her husband languishes in custody ahead of his sentencing hearing later this year.
