Blockade Australia climate activists have struck for the 13th time in a week with a 17-year-old protester’s actions leading to rail chaos around one of the largest coal export terminals in the world.
A female protester, who went by the name Aahana, suspended herself 40-metres from a bipod over the Singleton Bridge, blocking a key point in the Hunter Valley coal network.
As a result, no trains ran between Maitland and Scone/Dungog on the Hunter Line on Monday morning.
#HunterLine Trains are running between Newcastle Interchange and Telarah.

“At 17 years old, I was able to immobilise key infrastructure at an economic bottleneck and take action at the foundation of Australia’s political power. Blocked capital cannot be ignored,” she said.
Her banner read: “No Liberation Without Resistance.”
This is the 13th action and Blockade Australia in less than two weeks.
“The climate breakdown is already having dire consequences for countless people world wide,” a spokesperson for BA said.
“Intensification of natural disasters like heatwaves and floods is induced by systems of exploitation around the globe. As the third biggest exporter of fossil fuels in the world Australia is choosing to prioritise profit for a few over the lives of many.”
NSW Police are at the scene working to remove the female from the bipod.
Blockade Australia has reported 13 co-ordinated actions over the past six days aimed at disrupting the Port of Newcastle.
To date, 11 individuals have been charged in connection with these unauthorised protests.
