A SENIOR Rebels bikie associate and expecting father has walked free from court despite a jailhouse attack on a man he thought was linked to the death of his close mate and fellow gang member Michael Davey.

Wearing a sharp blue suit and Louis Vuitton loafers, Chris Michael Rymer faced Burwood Local Court on Monday where CCTV vision was played, capturing the attack inside Silverwater’s Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre on December 6, 2016.

Rymer lunged at the man before two guards stepped in, then he attempted a high kick at the man’s head.

“It’s unprovoked ... You see him punch then kick him in the face,” police prosecutor Sergeant Carter told the court.

At the time of the attack, Rymer was on remand with three other Rebels facing charges of kidnapping and brutally bashing a gang member over an internal feud. They were all found not guilty and Rymer was released on November 3, 2017.

His solicitor Adam Williams argued Rymer, who pleaded guilty to common assault over the Silverwater attack on May 26 last year, barely made contact with his victim, if at all.

“The assault itself was very brief ... It’s not clear that they actually connected,” Mr Williams said.

He also explained his client “lost control of his emotions” the moment he saw the man because he believed he was linked to the shooting murder of fellow Rebel Michael Davey — also known as “Ruthless” and the “Prince of Penrith” — in March 2016.

Mr Williams also revealed Rymer, who had been a Rebels associate in the past, was himself a victim of a bloody attack in which he was repeatedly stabbed while in custody.

“On the 15th of March he was assaulted by two persons, he was stabbed nine times,” Mr Williams told the court.

He argued Magistrate Joy Boulos should consider Rymer had already been punished for the Silverwater attack, via the retaliatory stabbing and the fact it resulted in a second period in protective custody, meaning he was isolated from other inmates.

She rejected that argument but agreed Mr Rymer’s personal situation had changed since the 2016 attack, including that his partner of 10 years was expecting their second child and he was due to start work with a scaffolding firm this week.

She sentenced him to six months jail but backdated it to the time of the offence, meaning he had served his time by June 5, 2017, while on remand for other charges.
