Paradise islands for sale

IF you've ever dreamed of owning an island, then two pieces of paradise off the coast of Central Queensland are just what you're looking for.

EVER dreamed of waking up on your own island?

Well that dream could be closer than you think because sitting off the coast of Central Queensland are two spectacular islands that are for sale.

Victor Island is just 30km south-east of Mackay while Camp Island is at the northern end of the Whitsunday Islands, with access off Bowen.

Mackay accountant Denis Connole and his wife Vicky have co-owned Victor Island with John and Elizabeth Zarb for 12 years.

Mr Connole said his wife and four children, along with the Zarb family, had used the island as a private getaway on weekends and holidays.

“We bought the lease for the island 12 years ago with another family and we’ve had many memorable holidays there,” Mr Connole said.

“It’s great, there is plenty of space and it’s very private.”

But retirement and a love of travel has pulled the Connoles and Zarbs in other directions.

“Our children have grown up and left Mackay,” Mr Connole said.

“We travel a lot and don’t use it as much anymore.

“The other family have got themselves a glorious boat so our interests have grown away from the island.”

Mr Connole said a full-time caretaker lived on the island and looked after the spacious home overlooking the Great Barrier Reef.

“The island is great for families who want their own little space to go fishing, prawning, crabbing and holidaying,” he said.

Real estate agent and island specialist Richard Vanoff, of Coldwell Banker Australia, is looking after the sale of both islands.

He said Victor Island was perfect for those looking for an everyday escape.

“The island has a full Bed and Breakfast licence but the current owners have maintained it as a private getaway.”

Mr Vanoff said the Silver Shoals Lodge on Camp Island also was up for sale. It had been owned by three families since the early 1990s.

“There is the scope to turn the property into a full-time commercial activity; however, I believe that it is a home in paradise,” he said.

The Silver Shoals Lodge has four cabins, a caretaker’s lodge, home, tennis court and pool.

The island lease is available until 2035.

Mr Vanoff said most islands in Queensland were under leasehold with the State Government.

Camp Island

The island is seven hectares with a caretaker’s lodge, massive home, four private cabins, tennis court, pool and marina.

Victor Island

The island spans three hectares with a spacious home, ocean views, a gazebo and walking trails.

Access by boat from Grasstree Beach, or a six-minute helicopter ride from Mackay Airport.

 Price: $1.95 million negotiable.
