OUR SAY: Wicked Camper slogans show a double standard

NOT many businesses would dare turn away paying customers these days.

NOT many businesses would dare turn away paying customers these days.

But the Rainbow Beach Holiday Village's stance on offensive Wicked Camper van slogans is one to be proud of.

People offended by some of the Wicked Campers are not just being prudish.

The words spray-painted on their vehicles are so vile that this newspaper could not print them - it is the type of language that gets covered up with stickers even on the front page of adult magazines.

Some of the phrases are sexist and downright abhorrent, and they are not concepts that I would like to explain to a child.

So why is the company allowed to permit these vans on the road?

As a marketing gimmick, it might work - the topic has created countless column inches of outrage.

But it is a double standard that these words would face restrictions in print - being rated 18-plus - only for them to be spotted out on the open highway with no consequences to the company responsible.
