Mayor will brave chill for Sleepout

IPSWICH Mayor Paul Pisasale is again preparing to brave the cold in his role as Vinnies CEO Sleepout ambassador to raise awareness about homelessness.

IPSWICH Mayor Paul Pisasale is again preparing to brave the cold in his role as Vinnies CEO Sleepout ambassador to raise awareness and hopefully funds to combat homelessness.

Mayor Pisasale said homelessness was an issue that could not be ignored and he was doing his best to remind everyone of this group in the community.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout on Thursday, June 20, is a way for business leaders to raise awareness and important funds in support of essential homeless services across the country.

"I'm back for my third year at the sleepout and it's important to raise the needed financial support and raise awareness so we can work together to help the most vulnerable," he said.

"It's getting cold again and I think we all forget how hard the winter months can be on families and people who are already living on a strict budget.

"I know in Ipswich Vinnies provides support to people who are struggling with mortgage payments, petrol for the breadwinner's car or services that keeps them off the streets," Mayor Pisasale said.

St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland CEO Peter Maher said more than 150 CEOs had signed up to rise the challenge and spend a night sleeping rough.

"With so many business, political and community leaders on board we are looking forward to hitting our $1 million mark this year," Mr Maher said.

"The money raised goes towards helping families stay in their homes, providing crisis accommodation for those escaping domestic violence and so much more.

"I urge you to get online and support your favourite CEO to raise money. I know Mayor Pisasale is committed to getting your support so show him that you care."
