An Evans Head man has died after his car left the road and hit a tree at Broadwater, about 30 kilometres south of Ballina on the North Coast.
Emergency services were called to Broadwater-Evans Head Rd after reports of the single-vehicle crash about 5.50am on Monday.
The 61-year-old driver, who died at the scene, was the only occupant in a Nissan Navara ute travelling north.
The road was closed after the crash and reopened at 11.45am.
It is partially a 100kmh zone and passes through Broadwater National Park.
Kangaroos and wallabies are a common sight, especially at dawn and dusk.
Officers from Richmond Police District have began inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A spokesman said it was not clear what speed the driver may have been travelling at the time.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
