A northern NSW man charged over a fatal crash which claimed a local man’s life has hobbled into court on crutches for his latest appearance.

A North Coast man charged over a fatal crash on a major highway in which a 61-year-old man died has hobbled into court on crutches for his latest appearance.
Lovepreet Singh, 28, appeared before Ballina Local Court using crutches and with a leg brace on Thursday (September 8) facing charges of dangerous driving causing death, and negligent driving causing death.
Police will allege Singh was involved in a two-vehicle crash between a van and a utility on the Bruxner Highway at Uralba, about 10km west of Ballina, on January 8, 2022.
The ute’s driver, Lindendale man Peter Johnston, 61, died at the scene.
Singh was also trapped in his white Toyota hiace and had to be treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being released and flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A 26-year-old male passenger was also treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital with minor injuries.
Magistrate Karen Stafford adjourned the matter until November 16 for charge certification before Lismore Local Court.
No pleas have been entered yet.
