LETTER: Pollies ignore farmers who are left to struggle

I AM passionate about supporting our farmers, especially those out west suffering from severe drought.

I AM passionate about supporting our farmers, especially those out west suffering from severe drought.

It's a privilege to deliver food donated by local businesses, support farmers through the Farmer Assist program and through the Sporters Shooters Association of Australia to control wild dogs and feral pigs and work on those properties while there.

So I was aghast to read that $2 billion is to be spent upgrading the state capital CBD with some flowery project and sports arena above the central rail yards, not to mention the lies from both sides (of politics) about how they are going to spend billions on promises they can't keep, from money we, Australians, don't have.

I have sat on the banks of the Barcoo River, a waterhole, which supports dying fields and some stock capable of reaching those waterholes.

But no one else, especially the city dwellers, sees such devastation and misery; the same thing our farmers see every day.

There is no relief for them, no flowery projects or sport arenas to cover the unsightly areas on their dry parched properties.

No money spent where voters have little to offer, no ongoing projects to support their efforts to provide for the population through their struggle to farm. Why?

Once again charity begins at home, not through donating billions of dollars overseas, or building flowery projects for those who don't appreciate the everyday struggle.

The population of Queensland that does not live in the south-east needs to voice its concerns to the government.

We need to put pen to paper, harass State Government elected members into action and put pressure on Federal Members.

Remember, don't forget to mention you have a vote that can change a government if you feel they are not helping you or your farmers.

I do hope that the coastal-dwelling people who live in lavish surrounds and who read this letter give a little and help farming families to continue their will to support you.
