Two North Coast men pulled over during a vehicle stop on the Pacific Motorway near Broadwater have faced court after police allegedly found a firearm in their SUV.
Kye Adams, 43, of Evans Head, appeared in custody, representing himself before Magistrate Karen Stafford in Ballina Local Court.
He is charged with possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm, possess unauthorised firearm, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.
Adams was allegedly caught with a homemade shotgun and in possession of an unlawfully attained NSW registration number plate on May 1.
Adams pleaded not guilty to the firearms offences but guilty to goods suspected of being stolen.
The court heard Adams has a criminal history involving firearms possession, drug possession and traffic matters but has not been charged since 2015.
The court heard Adams was in the company of co-accused Kane Wilson, 31, also of Evans Head, during the commission of the alleged offences.
Adams was granted bail and must report to Evans Head Police Station on Mondays.
The matter is due to return to Ballina Local Court on September 14.
Co-accused Wilson has pleaded guilty to goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, and not guilty to the firearms offences.
His matter is scheduled for a hearing in Ballina Local Court on December 1.
He has also been granted bail.
