An industrial riverside building could soon become home to the newest Northern Rivers’ gym.
An application for the Ballina indoor recreational facility was submitted to Ballina Shire Council last week.
The submission was made on behalf of Jake Connolly and Strike Fit Australia, a personal trainer company.
The 30 Smith Dr spot had been used as a marine sales showroom and workshop with caretaker’s residence for 40 years but the first look at the proposed gym shows the area completely transformed.
Documents detail the development would include a 24 hour personal training studio/gym for up to 25 patrons and one staff/trainer, seven days a week.
Small group fitness classes of yoga, HIIT, strength were also promised in the application, with a large focus on “mobility classes suitable for an ageing population.”
“The existing first floor caretaker’s residence will remain relatively unchanged and will coexist with the intended proposal (i.e., management for the gym will reside on-site for safety/security and monitoring),” the environmental effects statement read.
Other services such as child minding, pool facilities, steam or sauna rooms would not be part of the gym development.
Patrons would be able to access the facility using “state of the art security systems” and a personal access card.
The application also signalled a move to create a 29-space carpark for the gym.
The alterations and additions are expected to cost $311,500.00.
The determination is pending and developments details are available on the Ballina Shire Council website here.
