A new state-of-the-art learning hub for a Ballina school has been approved by council, promising more learning opportunities and specialist teaching.
Ballina Shire Council approved Emmanuel Anglican College’s development application for their Endeavour Hub, costing an estimated $1,314,500, last week.
The hub will give the school more flexibility and relieve pressure on timetabling for specialist lessons, the application had stated.
Upgrades will consist of three separate junior school learning spaces known as the Wellbeing Hub, the E-Learning Area and the Learning Support Area.
In particular, the E-Learning centre will support the 10.5 per cent of primary students who receive disability support funding under Nationally Consistent Collection of Data guidelines.
“The Learning Support area will provide a space for a range of specialist, individual and group programs to enhance the learning of students with additional needs, as well as a separate space where individual welfare and wellbeing needs can be addressed,” the application stated.
One of the areas will also replace a 15-year-old demountable building that is no longer suitable for the West Ballina School.
The approved application did not predict a enrolment rise as a result of the development.
The approval comes as the school puts other development plans before council, including the build of a new demountable classroom, maintenance shed and the relocation of two demountable classrooms.
Since the school’s inception in 1998, the college has grown to 725, according to the development details.
