'Don't wear your hijab in public': reader

I REFER to the Bundaberg Muslim woman and the bigoted attacks directed at her for wearing a hijab in public (FCC-02-09-16).

I don't condone such actions but offer her a simple solution whereby people don't try to run her over and beat her car while her children are inside: don't wear a hijab in public.

I don't care what religion a person feels a necessity to follow as long as it's a personal option and not a flag waving declaration which is totally out of character with the acceptable Australian psyche.

What the Bundaberg woman has to realise is that in this day and age whenever a terrorist attack is reported on in the media it is associated with the Muslim religion and thus the average person in the street is suspicious of anyone who publicly highlights his or her support for such a religion especially when the Muslim hierarchy in Australia continually fails to strongly condemn the terrorists' actions.

There's no problem with Muslims observing their religious duties in the local mosque or the privacy of their homes.

But they must accept that what is publicly acceptable in a Muslim country is out of character in Australia and they must adapt to the expectations of the communities of the country in which they live.
