THE Ipswich Festival came to a close over the weekend with two huge events in Queens Park.

Saturday a strong crowd made its way to the park from mid afternoon to enjoy the Jazz, Blues and Wine evening.

People gathered on the hill above the stage, with roving entertainers for the children, as well as food stalls and a number of bands performing jazz and blues throughout the evening.

The night was followed by the Global Fiesta, held in the same spot on Sunday.

Entertainment and festivities from cultures across the planet were on show, with dancers from Japan, India and the Middle East, traditional Greek music, as well as food stalls with cuisines from across the world.

Speaking at the Global Fiesta, Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said the festival had been a great success.

"We've had some great events in the last few days even," he said.

"The jazz festival last night showed our heart and soul. It was just brilliant. It's all about promoting who we are as a city."

Cr Pisasale praised the work of the festival's organising committee and Ipswich Events Corporation chairman Paul Casos.

While the 2013 Ipswich Festival has come to a close, a number of the exhibits and displays remain open, including the Faces of Ipswich photographic display at the Ipswich Art Gallery.
