Bandit fought off with pies, broom

A KNIFE-WIELDING thief in a devil mask was driven away with a barrage of pies and a broom after he tried to rob a takeaway store.

A KNIFE-WIELDING thief in a devil mask was driven away with a barrage of pies and a broom after he tried to rob a takeaway store.

Boonah Take Away owner Chris Napper was sweeping the store preparing to close up when the man, described as 170cm tall and of a slim build, placed a bag on the counter and demanded cash.

"I was sweeping around the till when he came into the store with a huge knife," Mr Napper said.

"He dumped a bag on the counter and said: 'Put the f**king money in the bag.' I just laughed at him.

"I hit the knife with my broom and my missus was at the pie heater so she just pulled out the whole tray and chucked it at him.

"I threw the broom at him then and jumped over the counter with a cricket bat and he pissed off."

The would-be thief attempted the robbery about 8.30pm.

He was seen fleeing the scene down Elizabeth Street empty handed.

Mr Napper said the thief was wearing a blue hoodie, black cargo pants and a mask with a devil design.

Police said anyone with information about the incident should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
