An 82-year-old woman has died after a crash in Ballina

A report will be prepared for the coroner and police are looking into the circumstances of the collision, which involved the woman being knocked back by a vehicle.

An elderly woman has passed away following a crash in Ballina.

Emergency services were called to Moon Street in the town’s CBD about 3pm on Monday following reports of a crash.

Police said they were told an 82-year-old woman was getting into the passenger side of a parked vehicle, a Hyundai Getz, when it reversed and mounted a kerb.

They said the woman was thrown to the ground and suffered serious head injuries.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene and transported her to Lismore Base Hospital.

Sadly, she later passed away in hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, an 88-year-old woman, was uninjured.

She was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District have begun an investigation into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
