A PORTRAIT of Masterchef George Calombaris today won the Packing Room Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW.
The portrait by Betina Fauvel-Ogden is also a finalist in the Archibald Prize, to be announced next week.
The gallery packing staff work around the clock at Archibald time and award their own prize, for which $1500 goes to the winner.
Calombaris said he was “just a cook” but was gob smacked by the creativity of Ms Fauvel-Ogden.
“What would life be without creative people?” Mr Calombaris said.
“Creativity is so beautiful and it was a blessing to stand there and watch this incredible artist produce something like that.”
