THE redevelopment of ANZ Stadium has blown out from its original price tag of $750 million to at least $1.1 billion.

And the cost could be as high as $1.7 billion. It is understood a business case scenario on the project puts the most advanced stadium redevelopment at the higher figure.

It’s understood these figures are being used behind closed doors by Sports Minister Stuart Ayres to argue for a new rectangular stadium instead at Moore Park.

But Premier Gladys Berejiklian is committed to the redevelopment of Sydney Olympic Park site.

It’s understood the $1.7 billion option would have fans closer to the action but the government may choose a less ambitious version.

Originally the government budgeted $1.6 billion for a series of stadium upgrades, including the $300 million Parramatta stadium construction and a refurbishment of Allianz Stadium at Moore Park.

Ms Berejiklian has promised to pay for the stadiums out of the windfall from the sale of the Land and Property Information service.
