Sydney’s single ladies take note: Sydney businessman investor John Singleton — single by name, eager by nature — is back on the market after splitting with his live-in “carer” girlfriend Kim Dennis.
The couple, who were together for about 18 months and confirmed the relationship to this column in 2021, separated before Christmas.
According to friends, the legendary adman called an end to the relationship after realising the almost 40-year age gap was something of an impediment to lasting love.
Singleton is 81 while Dennis, an attractive former ad rep who once worked for “Singo” at his Macquarie Radio Network station 2GB and who he has known for years, is in her forties.
In 2021 Singleton was happy to inform this column the couple’s shared love of horses had initially brought them together.
That, and Dennis’s willingness to move into Singleton’s house and attend to his health issues after he suffered heart failure and fluid on the lungs in November 2021.
This vocation followed Dennis being made redundant by 2GB’s new owner Nine. She now works for an American skincare company.
Dennis comes from a line of horse enthusiasts.
Her grandfather Alan was a champion equestrian rider in the 1950s, while her father, or so recalled former entrepreneur and rodeo sponsor Singleton, was a champion bull-rider with whom he crossed paths in the 1970s or ’80s.
The divorced mother of two moved into Singleton’s home at Mount White on the Central Coast where his beloved Strawberry Hill Farm is located.
According to sources, Dennis was blindsided by the split with Singleton and had been busy making future plans for the couple including holidays abroad.
Dennis, who hails from Western Sydney, had become comfortable at Mount White, and is said to have been holding out hopes for the marriage proposal that would have seen her become the next and seventh Mrs John Desmond Singleton.
Singleton’s fortune was last year put at an estimated $768 million.
Sources this week claimed Singleton will likely have been generous to Dennis following their split. He could not be reached for comment on Friday.
Prior to Singleton, Dennis was linked to then 2GB radio commentator Steve Price, with whom she was photographed in October 2019.
Price separated from his second wife Wendy Black that same year, although in June 2019 denied the split when contacted by this column following the sale of the couple’s South Yarra marital home.
Meanwhile, 12 months after listing his Hawaiian retreat on Lanikai Beach, we hear Singleton might finally have a buyer after initially listing the property with $17.3 million hopes, nearly double what he paid for it ($9.3 million) in August 2019.
It seems Singo is starting 2023 with a clean slate.
