Allianz Stadium unrecognisable as $730 million rebuild underway

Flattened earth, twisted metal, excavator littered across the pitch — the $730 million knockdown and rebuild of Allianz Stadium is well underway.

New photos have revealed the extent to which the Moore Park venue has transformed since demolition began just three months ago before the NSW election.

And while it looks like something out of a war zone, a 45,000-seat venue will rise from the rubble with the facility on track to be completed by early 2022.

The NSW government has promised it will have “state-of-the-art” facilities which will “position the Sydney Football Stadium as a global leader in game-day experiences for all patrons and future proof the precinct”

But the project almost didn’t get off the ground due to a legal fight to stop demolition which was supported by the Greens.

The stadium knockdown was also opposed by NSW Labor whose election campaign was “schools and hospitals before stadiums”.
