From a filmmaker to Renee Rivkin, the $80 million cocaine smuggling sting allegedly involving socialite Matthew Doyle has highlighted the deeply interconnected nature of Sydney’s social circles.

Female cop's terrifying stint as a drug mule

While the $80 million cocaine smuggling sting allegedly involving socialite Matthew James Doyle has dominated the headlines of late, it has also highlighted the deeply interconnected nature of Sydney’s elite social circles.

For example, just a few close connections link Doyle and the infamous late stockbroker Renee Rivkin — and one of those connections includes filmmaker Tyson Mullane, whose exes include soap star Pia Miller and model Cheyenne Tozzi.

Doyle, a property developer by trade, is a mover and a shaker on the Sydney social circuit who was charged by organised crime police with attempting to smuggle 300kg of cocaine into Australia.

His wife Kelsea (previously known as Kelsea-Amber Nagel) was PR to star designers including Ksubi and Josh Goot. Kelsea Doyle has not been charged and is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Prior to being charged, Matthew Doyle was listed in business records as a director or shareholder of a long list of companies.

Two of those companies were Rose Gold Group and Fine Diving, which records said were located in a level-five office on Castlereagh St.

Mullane was listed as a director of Rose Gold, which ended on February 4, 2016, the same day Doyle became a director.

Mullane was also a former shareholder of Fine Diving alongside Doyle. There is no suggestion Mullane has engaged in any illegal behaviour and he has not been charged with any offence.

When asked about the companies, Mullane said: “Many years ago, Matt and I intended to open a local restaurant. Those plans never went ahead so we parted ways.” Mullane added he was “truly shocked and saddened to learn of his news” relating to Doyle being charged over a cocaine importation.

The business records listed Mullane as living in a $3 million luxury townhouse in Darling Point.

According to property records, the townhouse was bought for $2.97 million in 2016 by Rivkin’s son Dion and his model wife Anna.

WHO’S ON GUARD?

A sheriff’s officer is supposed to be on duty in all court hearings to keep the judges and everyone else safe — but we learned this week at Estimates there are fewer than 300 on duty across the whole state, and between January and June “708 shifts” were outsourced to private security firm SNP.

Labor’s Shaoquett Moselmane asked if that was sufficient, to which the Justice Department’s Catherine D’Elia said: “The courts are funded to have sheriff’s officers for every sitting court.”

Not very reassuring.
