The crackdown on Sydney’s crime gangs has continued with a whopping $900,000 in cash seized during a series of raids on storage facilities on the Central Coast.
Investigators from NSW Police’s recently announced Taskforce Erebus have hit the ground running with a spate of arrests and raids targeting criminal networks and bikie gangs across the state in the wake of three fatal shootings in the past fortnight.
Detectives from the Criminal Groups Squad – which has been leading investigations into the Alameddine and Hamzy war – searched storage units at Woy Woy, and a home in Umina, from 9am on Wednesday.
Inside the home detectives found $338,000 cash, before returning to the storage facility and seizing a further $556,000 and additional sums of foreign currency.
All seized cash will undergo further forensic analysis.
When officers arrived at the Umina home they allege Bradley Michael Nash attempted to flee from inside.
The 37-year-old – who is from the UK – was arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station.
He was charged with enter enclosed land without a lawful excuse, and knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime.
Nash was refused bail, and was not required to appear when his matter was mentioned before Magistrate Jennifer Price at Gosford Local Court on Thursday.
His Legal Aid lawyer indicated he would not apply for bail and was seeking private representation. No pleas were entered to either of the charges.
Charge sheets tendered to the court allege that Mr Nash did knowingly “deal with proceeds of crime” to the value of $894,000 in Australian currency and $3640 in pounds on May 18.
The charges also state that Nash allegedly entered private land without consent on Glenn St in Umina Beach between 10.30am and1.25pm on Wednesday.
His matter was adjourned until July 15.
The raids on the Central Coast by Task force Erebus followed the arrests of three men in Sydney in relation to their alleged involvement in KVT – a street gang linked to the Alameddine crime clan.
Heavily armed Raptor Squad officers burst through the doors of family homes in Auburn, Merrylands and Carramar from 6am on Wednesday, arresting two 18-year-olds and a 19-year-olds.
