There has been an outpouring of community grief after a four-year-old boy tragically drowned in Palmerston.

Tragically on Saturday afternoon the young child was found unresponsive in a pool in a Palmerston backyard.

The boy was taken out of the pool and CPR was started.

Police and St John Ambulance both rushed to the scene and took over CPR duties, however the child was declared deceased at the scene.

News of the tragic death has rocked the community far and wide with a wave of deep compassion across the Territory.

The sad news of the loss of a life so young prompted hundreds of locals to take to social media to send their condolences and love.

“I heard the ambulances and police flying down Temple Terrace and I knew in my heart it wasn’t good,” one woman wrote.

“Love and strength to the family, I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss.”

“So very, very tragic and heartbreaking, condolences to this family. Rest in peace little angel, only the best and sweetest angels are taken so early.

May your family have strength and the resilience to get through this very dark time, love and light to each one of you,” another wrote

“Absolutely devastating - condolences to his family and sending strength to all persons connected in (anyway), including emergency services, friends and neighbours,” wrote another.

“The pain spreads in the community no matter the connection.

“Hold your loved ones, loved them with all your heart and remember life can change in a heartbeat.”

“Just so sad,” said another paying tribute.

“My heart breaks for family and friends of this little boy - RIP little man.”

Further details behind the tragedy are yet to be revealed, with a report currently being prepared for the coroner.
