Tasmania enjoyed a huge Coates Talent League percentage boost by dispatching Northern Territory Academy by 136 points at Highgate Reserve on Sunday.

The Devils were consistent, scoring 85 points in the first half and 91 in the second to win 176-40 as Northern Territory again struggled to deal with a high-class opponent.

On the plus side for the Northern Territory, they scored more points than they did in their heavy loss to Calder last weekend and can take some optimism into next weekend’s clash against the Gold Coast Suns.

Famous family names, NTFL rising star nominees and developing young guns fill out a talented Northern Territory squad set to take on the Tasmania Devils at Highgate Recreation Reserve in the Coates Talent Boys League on Sunday.

It’s just the second game of the competition for the Northern Territory side, and they will be wanting to bounce back after losing 30.18 (198) to 4.1 (25) to second placed Calder Cannons.

But with some game time now under their belts, the NT side can make a real impression against the Devils.

Waylon Davey is getting his chance to shine.

The Territory side includes the best young players from the 2022-23 NTFL season including Rising Star nominees Andrew Green, Enrique Andrews, Taj Stanley, Calvin Peris Chong and Tyson Whyte.

And with Waylon Davey and Brodie Motlop getting their chances as well, there’s more than one household AFL name in the group.

On the ins and outs front, NT will be without Sporties Spitfires ace goalscorer Stanley Waistcoat, but welcome in a host of talent including yet another NTFL Rising Star nominee in Will Rowlands.

But regardless of who comes into the side, the NT will be up against some seriously strong opposition, judging by Tasmania’s most recent match 11.15 (81) to 9.8 (62) victory against Eastern Ranges.

James Leake and Harry Summers were judged among the best for the Devils in that win.

NT coach Brent Renouf said it had been a tough opening game for the side, but there were some positive signs he hoped to see more of in the match against Tasmania.

“It was a tough first week for us as an Academy,” Renouf said.

“We have got a lot of work to do as a team and our players now know the standard they need to get to.

“We got outworked and outclassed, but in saying that showed some good signs in the third quarter.

“We look forward to playing Tasmania which will give us the chance to execute some of the things we have worked on at training this week.”
