The votes are in: Tassie’s best winery has been revealed

Mercury readers crown Tassie’s best winery from ‘impressive’ shortlist of nominations. THE WINNER + TASSIE’S TOP 5 >>

Are you drinking too much in isolation?

LIKE a fine wine, Frogmore Creek Winery’s success is based on balance.

That is why reader’s have declared the Cambridge based vineyard, cellar door and restaurant Tasmania’s best winery in the Mercury’s online poll as part of the Tassie’s Best series.

From a short list of 20 Tasmanian wineries, 13.48 per cent of voters said Frogmore Creek was their favourite.

Brand manager Shelley Bickerstaff said the business was “chuffed” to be the people’s choice.

“It was a pretty impressive collections of vineyards and offerings,” she said.

“We’ve always prided ourselves on balancing out the wine, service and food.

“If one thing shines above the rest, we feel we are not getting the balance right.”

Rounding out the poll’s top five were Home Hill Winery, Puddle Duck Vineyard, Bangor Vineyard Shed and Bream Creek Vineyard.

Ms Bickerstaff said the Tasmanian wine industry was going to continue to grow with the quality of its products “way above average” for such a small percentage of the Australian wine industry.

“We’re really proud of what we do and also the community and super grateful to Tasmania and the community for the nomination and award.”

Since the pandemic began, the winery has been offering its Frogmore at Home dining experience.

“We wanted to still engage our community and keep all of our staff employed,” Ms Bickerstaff said.

“A lot of restaurants transited to a takeaway meal service and we wanted to do something that was a little bit different where people could still have what they considered their Frogmore experience at home.

“It’s been incredibly well received and its been amazing to connect with people who have used it to celebrate through lockdown.”

In the next instalment of The Mercury’s Best of Tasmania series, we’re asking our readers to cast their vote for the state’s best brunch spot. Voting starts 6pm tonight at www.themercury.com.au.
