A Queensland family has narrowly escaped tragedy after their car was rammed and their daughter was shot in a terrifying road rage attack near Brisbane on Anzac Day.

Footage from a trailing car captured the moment a white Toyota Landcruiser swerved into the path of the family’s yellow Ford Focus on the Logan Motorway at Drewvale in Brisbane’s south.

The four-wheel drive can be seen driving alongside the small hatchback before veering into its lane, almost sideswiping it. The small car hits the brakes to avoid disaster.

The Landcruiser then moves into the far left lane, seemingly about to exit the motorway, before careening back at the family car, which sped away from the menace as passengers in the car recording the attack can be heard asking “what just happened?”

Todd Power, who was driving his family home in the yellow hatchback after a day of fishing, said they were lucky to be alive after the 4WD began driving recklessly around them about 6.30pm.

He said the Landcruiser, which had been “slamming the brakes” in front of the family of four and swerving at their Focus, then rammed them from behind and shot at the car.

“He actually shot from the driver’s seat through the passenger’s seat in his car,” Mr Power told The Courier Mail.

“It skimmed across my thumb, between the seats and through to my daughter in the back (passenger-side) seat. It hit her in the leg.”

The Brisbane father said the driver in the heavily-tinted 4WD “got as close as he could” when he took the shot that struck his 14-year-old daughter Kayla.

It seemed the family’s ordeal was over when the assailant appeared to be taking the Mount Lindesay Highway exit. But, Mr Power said, it swerved back and “tried to basically T-bone” the family.

After speeding away from the driver the family called police and met officers and an ambulance at a shopping centre car park. Kayla was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Mr Power said his daughter was still recovering from the incident that left “a hole in her leg”, adding his daughter didn’t know what happened at the time and described it as feeling like someone had hit a golf ball into her leg.

In the days after the attack, the father-of-four has realised how catastrophically the situation could have ended for his family.

“It could have ended a lot worse, that bullet could have hit my in the eye and we could have crashed and all died,” Mr Power told the publication.

Mr Power claimed that the family who recorded the attack told him that the 4WD driver “tried to run them off the road three times”.

He told 7News his daughter was “just screaming ... absolutely screaming” after she was hit by the bullet.

“I saw a flash and heard a bang and thought ... is this for real? Did they just really shoot at us?” he said.

The teenage girl recalled the horrific moment the shooting occurred, saying she “got hit by something’ and there was blood on my pants”.

Police are appealing for information from the public as they continue investigating the incident and search for the driver of the Landcruiser.

“Around 6.35pm, a yellow Ford Focus and white Toyota Landcruiser were travelling on the Logan Motorway when the driver of the Landcruiser rammed the other vehicle from behind.

“The Ford Focus sustained damage to the rear.

“The driver of the Landcruiser has then fired an unknown weapon, believed to be an air rifle, towards the occupants of the Ford Focus.

“A female passenger sustained a minor injury to her leg from a projectile and was taken to hospital.

“The Landcruiser continued to drive westbound on Logan Motorway.”

In a bid to speed up the search for the driver that attacked his family, Mr Power shared photos of the cruiser to Facebook.

“We need to get him off the streets as quickly as we can,” he told 7NEWS.
