A BACK-ALLEY Gold Coast watering hole is returning to the Glitter Strip with a brand new cocktails and tapas vibe.

Following a forced COVID-19 hiatus, Surfers Paradise rum bar Taboo Tiki is reopening on Friday night — but it’s now a cocktail venue with Polynesian snacks too.

Venue manager Larissa Burgess said she was excited to revamp the menu and bring “out-of-the-box entertainment” to the party precinct amid the pandemic.

“People may not be able to dance at Tiki, but there will be a fair bit to do over a cocktail or two,” she said.

“Hospo Monday, taco Thursday, trivia, comedy nights, taco eating competitions and cranking tunes on our DJ set will be a few things on offer.

“It’s nice to be back and we have our fingers crossed restrictions will ease soon so we can host more than 70 diners.”

The bar has been operating in No Name Lane, an alleyway off Orchid Avenue near Hollywood Showgirls, since May 2019. It’s now very similar to its sister venue Aloha Bar and Dining in Broadbeach.

Before closing on March 23, the bar operated without a food license or kitchen and had around six cocktails on the menu.

A range of wonton tacos, bao buns, spring rolls and marinated skewers is now on the menu. More than 25 tropical cocktails are on offer, including the Hemp Mojito.

Taboo Tiki is owned by Gavin McDougal, who originally entered into the venture with Tim Glasson before the pair split as business partners.

The venue will host a VIP opening on Friday night, but open to the public from 9pm.

Walk ins and bookings are accepted from 6pm-3am Friday to Monday.
