THE Gold Coast’s newest school has finally been named.
After months of deliberation by a community panel the new $59.6 million primary school at Pimpama has been named Gainsborough State School.
Set to open in February next year the school, being built on Yawalpah Road, is still under construction but according to officials will be open in time for around 400 pupils from prep to year six.
The school’s founding Principal Clayton McCann, who previously led Labrador State School for more than a decade, said uniform development was now underway.

Remaining tight-lipped about the plans, Mr McCann did say the community forum hopes to release the designs shortly.
“The school colours have been picked by our community consultation group, and we will roll that out soon.” Mr McCann said.
“It is a hard to describe the colour but it is a form of green, it is a green with a bit of orange and a bit of black.

“We will promote all of that together with the logo soon, now we have released the name.”
Mr McCann said there have already been over 100 expressions of interest to enrol in the school since last week.
“Everything is on track as expected,” he said.
“We are being purpose built for two specialist STEAM (science, Technology, Engineers, Arts and maths) rooms so we are looking at a curriculum that focuses on STEAM and integrating that into the curriculum and making it accessible for all boys and girls at the school.
“The three points of focus for the school will be ‘excellence, innovation and insight,” he said.
Education Minister Grace Grace said the school was among five new state schools being constructed in Queensland this year, with another three to follow in 2022.
“The first stage will feature administration and corporate services facilities, prep and junior learning centres, a specialist STEAM and music centre, a central covered area, library, canteen, sports oval, staff and student amenities and a multipurpose hall,” she said.
“This new school will not only support the education needs of the local community, which is a fastest-growing areas in the state, it is helping local tradies stay afloat.
“We have built, are building and will build the schools the rapidly expanding northern Gold Coast needs.”
