A neighbour has helped save a teenager who was “bleeding out” after a machete attack in Melbourne’s west on Sunday morning.
The 18-year-old tried desperately to wake his neighbours to call for help after the attack before he collapsed on the doorstep of a Werribee home at about 6am.
The owner of the home — Felicity Warnouk — described a shocking scene.
“It was horrendous, he was pounding on that door, (he had) blood pouring out of his face, all over his shirt, his hands were covered (in blood),” she told Seven News.
Ms Warnouk said the boy was pleading for help, saying “I need water, I’m going to die, don’t let me die, help me, help me.”
She said it was “incredibly confronting” to wake up to the distressed and bloodied teen.
He was taken to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.
Police attended the scene at Grandvista Boulevard in Werribee at about 6am on Sunday following reports of a stabbing attack.
Security camera footage showed the victim being attacked by at least three men with machetes on the front lawn of a home.
He was then seen with a bloody shirt and arm going door-to-door pleading for help. A trail of blood could be seen on the front patios of the homes he went to.
The attackers allegedly ran from the scene, leaving a machete and a set of car keys which unlocked a car that was stolen during an aggravated burglary in the suburb on February 16.
Police are searching for five males they believe were behind the attack. It is not known whether they were known to the victim.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
Anyone with information about the attack is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
