BEST GOLD COAST MEDIUM SCHOOL 2020: Aquinas College

Walking into Aquinas College feels like a big warm hug and it’s officially the best medium school on the Gold Coast.

The catholic high school is the category winner of the Best of the Gold Coast school series – a Bulletin competition that has been celebrating more than 30 Coast schools with 600-1000 pupils.

Principal Mr Peter Hurley said he knew exactly why.

“Our school is the best of both worlds, just like goldilocks” he said.

“We are known for our academic excellence but also our holistic learning through service learning, co-curricular activities and our caring environment.

“During COVID-19, this competition is great and it’s a great way to celebrate students, parents and staff.”

Aquinas College 2021 school captains Ava Henry and Ted Lesson are very proud of their Ashmore school.

“It’s the best because it feels like a family,” Ava, 17, said.

“Aquinas is fun and everyone is welcomed with open arms. We also have a lot of co-curricular opportunities.”

The school is surrounded by a number of lush ovals, lawns and gardens and is next door to Guardian Angels Primary School.

Mr Hurley said COVID-19 has been challenging but the school was excited about their new, modern buildings and developing their academic excellence, sporting and co-curricular programs.

The school will celebrate 30 years as a coeducational establishment with a Unity Gala Ball in March 2021.
