A “DANGEROUS” Gold Coast roundabout will get a $35 million upgrade as part of an LNP Government’s infrastructure program.
Carrara’s Gooding Drive roundabout will be replaced with a signalised intersection under a future LNP Government, according to leader Deb Frecklington.
The thoroughfare – which connects Nerang Broadbeach Road and Robina Parkway – is used by almost 44,000 cars a day.
Ms Frecklington said building the new intersection would “create jobs and stimulate the economy”.
“Replacing the dangerous roundabout with a safe intersection will cut congestion and create more than 109 jobs during construction,” she said.
“Busting this congestion will not only reduce travel times and improve safety for families but also boost local businesses, helping them create even more jobs.”
Gaven LNP candidate Kirsten Jackson said the roundabout was causing chaos for drivers.
“The roundabout set up is confusing and motorists often don’t even know what lane to be in,” she said.
“Prangs and crashes happen regularly and cause traffic mayhem.
“The roundabout is right in the middle of major growth areas in the Gaven, Mudgeeraba and Surfers Paradise electorates so this major project is needed now.”
The roundabout underwent a $6.7 million upgrade in 2018, as the final part of the $160.7 million Commonwealth Games upgrade package.
The upgrade included an additional lane, a new free-flow slip lane, new traffic signals, extensions to footpaths and new line-marking and signage.
