Incident sparks lockdown at two separate schools on Gold Coast

Students at two schools on the Gold Coast were forced into lockdown on Friday afternoon due to an incident. FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED

UPDATE 3.15PM: Police have confirmed lockdowns have lifted at two school Gold Coast schools.

A police spokeswoman said officers were attending a school on Archipelago St at Pacific Pines and Napper Rd, Arundel, for a family-related disturbance about 2pm Friday.

The schools involved were Pacific Pines State High School and Arundel State School.

The lockdowns were lifted about 3.15pm.

EARLIER: Students at two schools on the Gold Coast have been forced into lockdown due to an unfolding incident.

A police spokeswoman said officers were attending a school on Archipelago St at Pacific Pines and Napper Rd, Arundel, for a family-related disturbance about 2pm Friday.

The schools involved are Pacific Pines State High School and Arundel State School.

“Just before 2pm, police were notified of an alleged potential threat, which at this stage is unsubstantiated,” the spokeswoman said.

In a statement on Facebook, Arundel State School said it was in a precautionary lockdown in response to a threat.

“Police are investigating and we will follow their advice as to when it is safe to end the lockdown,” it said.

In a statement on Facebook, Pacific Pines State High School said it was in lockdown with all students safe.

“When the bell goes at 2.45pm students still need to remain until we get the all clear,” it said.

“We remind you to please not attend the school to try and collect your child.”

In a separate incident, a girl was injured in a near-miss with a car at the school about 8.15am Friday.

She was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Crooks on run after fiery stolen car crash into pole - May 18

Police are on the hunt for a group of car thieves after they smashed a stolen Mercedes sedan into a power pole at high speed in Ashmore overnight.

The incident on Cran St and Southport-Nerang Rd about 9pm caused significant damage and a widespread blackout in the area.

It is understood the power pole was “snapped completely” and a “tree caught fire” after lines came down, according to Energex.

The spokesman told the Bulletin close to 300 customers went without power for more than two hours.

Both Queensland Police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene shortly after 9pm, where fire crews worked for 35 minutes to contain the area.

A QFES spokesman said a large amount of fuel was spilled across the road.

Youths break man’s leg in head-on crash in ‘stolen’ car

May 17: A group of five juveniles have been “assisting detectives with their inquiries” after they crashed a “stolen” car head-on into another vehicle, breaking a man’s leg.

Queensland Police Service allege the youths were travelling in the vehicle stolen from Beenleigh along an industrial area on Peachey Rd at Ormeau about 1pm on Monday.

The car “collided head-on into another vehicle”, according to Gold Coast police Senior Constable Michael Coleman.

“Police will further allege five youths from the stolen vehicle fled the scene soon afterwards,” he said.

“Five youths were later located and arrested by police with the help of Dog Squad officers shortly after the incident.”

“All youths involved are assisting detectives with their inquiries.”

The juveniles were rounded up after fleeing into bushland.

The man aged in his 60s who suffered a broken leg and a gash to his head was treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Snr Const Coleman urged Gold Coast residents and visitors to secure their vehicles and “deter opportunistic thieves by not gifting their keys” to offenders.
