Residents believe speed was likely a significant factor in a horrific fatal crash which has claimed the life of a Pimpama man and left his car almost unrecognisable.

The 30-year-old driver died at the scene after his vehicle slammed into a traffic light pole at the intersection of Brisbane Rd and Captain Cook Dr, Biggera Waters about 4am on Sunday.

Emergency services tried to revive the man, the sole occupant of the car, but that was not successful, Queensland Police Service stated.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics came upon the crash and called for assistance.

Captain Cook Dr and Brisbane Rd have varying speed limits of 60-70kmh in the area.

The extensive damage sustained by the vehicle has prompted suggestions by Gold Coast residents on social media that it may have been travelling over the speed limit.

Queensland Police would not reveal whether speed was considered to be a factor in the crash.

But a spokesman confirmed that it would form part of inquiries, as is routine.

The Forensic Crash Unit has been investigating.

Police have called on anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam footage, to come forward to assist.

Significant delays on the M1 after truck crashes into underpass

May 14: Gold Coast motorists are experiencing significant delays on the M1 after a truck crashed into an underpass and was engulfed in flames.

A man in his 60s was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with back pains after his truck hit an underpass in Burleigh Heads, near exit 87.

Queensland Emergency Services and Gold Coast Police arrived at the scene on the Pacific Highway northbound at 5.12am after the truck carrying 30,000 litres of cooking oil, caught on fire.

Gold Coast Police closed all lanes from Elanora and Reedy Creek.

The road was opened again at 12.16pm.

Gold Coast Police advised for motorists to seek different routes as the congestion on the motorway would continue.

Motorists were being redirected through to Southport Burleigh Road while the motorway was closed.

Woman charged after Yatala smash

May 11: Police allege they found amphetamines and a flick knife on a woman who has been charged after crashing into the back of a B-double truck on the M1 overnight.

The Southport woman, 31, was driving a silver Hyundai Elantra northbound on the Pacific Motorway at Yatala when she crashed about 11.50pm on Tuesday, a police spokeswoman said.

The Hyundai was badly damaged and the woman and only occupant of the car suffered minor injuries.

“Due to the woman’s demeanour a search of the vehicle was conducted and police located a quantity of amphetamine and a flick knife,” the spokeswoman alleged.

Police believe the Hyundai may have been stolen.

The woman has been charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous drug and one count each of driving of motor vehicle without a driver's licence, driving under the influence and unlawful possession of a weapon.

A 44-year-old man driving the truck was not injured in the crash.

The woman was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Dog on the loose before drink driver’s head-on: Police

May 10: A Gold Coast woman has been charged with drink driving and transporting an unrestrained pooch after a head-on car crash which left two children injured.

The woman was driving a Mitsubishi Challenger along Tamborine Oxenford Rd when her vehicle collided with a Mazda CX5 near Michigan Dr.

The 41-year-old Carrara woman suffered minor facial and leg injuries, while a 31-year-old Coomera man driving the Mazda was not physically injured in the crash, a Gold Coast police spokeswoman said.

The woman has been charged with drink driving and travelling with an unrestrained animal, a large dog.

However, two young boys were treated for minor injuries, Queensland Ambulance Service stated.

Police have charged the Carrara woman with undue care and attention, defect, unlicensed driving, under the influence of liquor and travelling with an unrestrained animal (a large dog).

She was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on July 13.

Rescuers free person ‘trapped’ in garage mishap

May 5: Emergency services have raced to a home on the northern Gold Coast after a person was pinned between a garage roller door and a vehicle.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services rescuers were called to Harding St at Pimpama just before 9pm on Wednesday.

They found a male “trapped” by the garage roller door, a spokesman said.

Rescuers were able to free the person from the door and they left the scene in the hands of the residents.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics were called to Harding St about 8.45pm.

They treated a male, of an undisclosed age, who “became entrapped between a roller door and a vehicle”, according to a statement.

The patient is believed to be a man.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition as a precaution.

Gold Coast police attended the home, but officers were not required, a spokeswoman said.
