Gold Coast Airport has been struck by a security breach requiring the action of Federal Police after similar situations unfolded at Melbourne and Adelaide airports today.
Travellers were evacuated from Adelaide Airport for operational reasons shortly after a security breach at Melbourne Airport forced passengers to disembark a plane and evacuate a terminal this morning.
The Bulletin contacted Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), which oversees Gold Coast Airport for information on any notable incidents and delays.
A spokeswoman stated a “security breach” occurred at the Bilinga airport about 10.30am “which resulted in screening having to be paused for a 30 minute period”.
“GCA (Gold Coast Airport) management in conjunction with AFP (Australian Federal Police) managed the situation and operations have returned back to normal,” she said.
The spokeswoman added that the security breach “was not linked to the interstate incidents”. “There was minimal disruption to the airport’s operation,” she said.
The AFP has also been contacted for more information.
Queensland Police Service was not required to attend.
