Gold Coast police have been forced to a shut a lane on the M1 during the morning rush after a man was discovered unresponsive in a car parked in the middle of the city’s busiest road.
Queensland Police and Queensland Ambulance services were called to the Coomera off-ramp on the Pacific Motorway at Coomera about 7.05am.
The man was found “unresponsive” and his vehicle was “parked in a dangerous position”, according to a police spokeswoman.
Officers shut down a single southbound lane as they “woke” the man from his unresponsive state and assisted him to get out of the car.
Police were “trying to figure out what happened” and were nnot able to say if the man was experiencing a medical issue and whether alcohol or illicit substances may be involved, or other factors.
Paramedics took the man, believed to be aged in his 20s, to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, an ambulance spokeswoman said.
It’s expected he will undergo assessment and potentially testing to determine what occurred on the motorway.
Initially, the incident was reported to emergency services as a single-vehicle crash, but responders found that was not the case on arrival.
