Gold Coast police charge men from Worongary and Molendinar after they allegedly spat on cops in separate incidents

Police have charged two Gold Coast men after they allegedly spat on police officers while being dealt with for separate traffic offences.
In the first incident, a Worongary man, 19, was allegedly spotted doing burnouts in a vehicle in front of Broadbeach Police Station on Surf Parade about 3.10pm on Sunday.
“The vehicle was intercepted at this location and the driver returned a positive breath test,” a Gold Coast police spokeswoman said.
“Police were attempting to place the man in the back of the police vehicle when it is alleged he resisted entering the vehicle and fought police.
“He was wrestled to the ground at which time he allegedly spat at police.”
The driver has been charged with serious assault police, public nuisance and two counts of obstruct police.
He was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on October 10.
The 19-year-old has also been handed infringement notices including wilfully start or drive vehicle in a way that makes unnecessary noise or smoke, drive defective vehicle that does not comply with vehicle standards, drink liquor while drive, drive defective vehicle (component not comply with vehicle standards) and fail to produce provisional driver's licence as required by police officer.
Investigations were ongoing on Monday morning.
Shortly after the incident involving the Worongary man, police were advised of a collision between a Mitsubishi sedan and a Mazda dual cab ute towing a boat on a trailer at the intersection of Currumburra Rd and Southport Nerang Rd, Asmore.
Police have alleged a Molendinar man, 50, driving the Mitsubishi returned a breath test reading of .18 – just under four times the legal alcohol limit – after the crash about 4.50pm.
The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital suffering from a minor head injury.
“It is alleged during the transport to hospital a police officer travelling in the ambulance was spat at,” the police spokeswoman said.
The 50-year-old has been charged with serious assault police and driving under the influence of liquor.
It’s expected he will face Southport Magistrates Court on October 10.
The driver and passenger of the ute were not physically injured in the crash.
