The filming of an epic sequel to a pandemic blockbuster has seen parts of Surfers Paradise undergo a remarkable, and colourful transformation.

The filming of the Godzilla vs Kong movie sequel on the Gold Coast has seen parts of
Surfers Paradise undergo a colourful transformation into Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
On Friday, shopfronts have been adorned with signage referring to the international seaside city, left-hand drive cars have taken to the streets, a yellow car with TAXI. RIO was spotted and another blue and white car with a lightbar was plastered with POLICIA.
Dozens of extras working on the movie were being filmed fleeing the beach, presumably trying to escape a CGI Godzilla due to be edited in at a later date.
It comes after the original movie Godzilla vs Kong by Warner Bros Pictures and Legendary Pictures was filmed across the city in 2019, and Kong Skull Island was filmed in 2016.
Godzilla vs Kong locations included Village Roadshow Studios, Tallebudgera Valley, Miami High School and The Roosevelt Lounge at Broadbeach.
In March, the state government announced the sequel would act as a $79.2 million economic boost for southeast Queensland and create more than 500 jobs, plus opportunities for 750 extras.
The Godzilla vs Kong sequel, which is expected to release in 2024, may include cast from the original 2021 flick, including Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall, Millie Bobby Brown, and Brian Tyree Henry.
The filming of the monster movie sequel comes days after the Bulletin revealed a US-based consortium has approached council about buying a 85ha site at Yatala for new film studios.
National film industry statistics in December, 2021 showed more than $500 million was spent on productions in Queensland, including an estimated $200 million on the Gold Coast.
Baz Luhrmann’s recently released biopic Elvis was filmed entirely in the city.
