A road remains closed after a truck was left dangling off a bridge in a late-night crash on the northern Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the unfolding drama on Pimpama Jacobs Well Rd in Pimpama at around 11.45pm on Monday.

A truck had nosedived from the bridge into the water, leaving the cabin close to being fully submerged.

It took nearby powerlines down on its way.

The driver, aged in his 40s, escaped from the cab where he was helped by paramedics.

He didn’t want to be taken to hospital.

A Gold Coast police spokeswoman said the bridge has been “deemed unstable” and remained closed on Tuesday morning as engineers assessed the damage.

Police will investigate the cause of the crash.
