A Gold Coast police statement said the Chambers Flat man then pulled the car over near the Gooding Drive exit before being arrested.

One of the other officers had to use a fire extinguisher to stop the flames under the bonnet of the car while other motorists sped past the scene.

Luckily no one was injured during the incident.

While the 35-year-old was in custody, police searched the car which allegedly had a “significant” quantity of sweet potatoes, potatoes, wraps and almond milk.

It was alleged the produce had been stolen from a fresh-food grocer in Robina shortly before the incident.
