Gold Coast CEOs break fundraising record for homeless

More than 260 Gold Coast CEOs have braved the cold in a bid to help get increasing numbers of actual homeless off the street. Find out the impressive total.

Gold Coast business and community leaders have raised a record-breaking $710,000 after a night sleeping rough at Cbus Super Stadium for the 10th annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

More than 260 CEOs and executives took part to raise funds to tackle homelessness.

Donations are still coming in as organisers push towards $1m - their “most ambitious target yet”.

Gold Coast Bulletin general manager Belinda Dawes was among those who braved the cold, smashing her $8000 target by pulling in $17,590 by Friday morning.

“There’s 3400 people on the waiting list for social housing on the Gold Coast,” Dawes said.

“It’s a critical issue we need to solve and to have so many CEOs, business and community leaders come together sleeping rough for one night to raise money to make a difference was such an uplifting and inspiring experience.”

Topping the fundraising leaderboard was Village Roadshow CEO Clark Kirby with $50,000, followed by Westpac’s Jamie Preston ($22,850) and Clarendon Homes general manager Tim Redway ($18,440).

Politicians got in on the act too, with Member for Southport Rob Molhoek raising just shy of $10,000.

St Vincent de Paul Society executive officer Kris Martin said they were “stoked” with the result so far.

“It’s the highest funds we’ve ever raised in 10 years,” he said. “Over 1800 people are homeless on the Gold Coast - this is one night for them (the CEOs), but it’s many nights for others.”
