A man who attacked emergency workers and threatened to stab chemist staff has abandoned his appeal against a jail sentence.

Tyrone Van Dijk, 28, formerly of Corio, appeared in the County Court in Geelong on Tuesday to appeal a nine month jail sentence for a litany of offences including those in prison, during a police interview and out in the community.

Van Dijk was originally sentenced for 36 offences, including 11 counts of assaulting an emergency worker on duty, two counts of making a threat to kill, three counts of threatening to inflict serious injury, three counts of intentionally damaging property and assault with a weapon.

He was also charged with two counts of drug possession, dealing with property suspected to be the proceeds of crime, two counts of shoplifting, committing an indictable offence on bail, arson and failing to comply with reporting obligations.

Magistrate Franz Holzer jailed Van Dijk for nine months on February 8.

An appeal hearing in the case was set to be heard last week, but the matter was adjourned so on Van Dijk could undergo assessment for a community corrections order (CCO).

On Tuesday morning the appeal was abandoned.
