A young man killed in a horrific crash in Geelong has been farewelled in Barwon Heads, as his heartbroken family and friends come to grips with a life cut short.

A man who died in a tragic crash in Geelong has been farewelled in Barwon Heads, as his heartbroken family and friends come to grips with a life that ended far too soon.

Andrew John Almond has been identified as the 29-year-old killed on August 9 after his car struck a pole on Portarlington Rd in Newcomb.

He was the sole driver and occupant of the vehicle.

Tributes poured in ahead of his funeral, with friends, sporting acquaintances and former schoolteachers remembering a “bubbly” and “fun loving man” with a “cheeky sense of humour”.

It’s understood a beachside service at the At The Heads restaurant was at capacity on Tuesday, with people eager to pay their respects to the man and his well known and respected family.

“May the confusion and darkness of your grief be transformed by the memories of only the love and good times you had together,” one friend wrote.

Mr Almond grew up in Barwon Heads and attended Barwon Heads Primary School, where he was described as a “delightful little boy”, also playing football in the Bellarine Football League club.

He was a successful weightlifter and bodybuilder and was a founding member of a popular Ocean Grove gym, whose owners described him as a cherished part of their business.

“He quickly became a friend and support for both of us over the years due to his optimism, cheer, work ethic and easy smile.”

He is survived by his parents, Bob and Jo, and siblings Jacob and Emily, and will be remembered for his determination and fighting spirit in a life cut short.
