Police have charged one man and arrested another following an alleged attempted copper theft in North Shore last night.

A 41-year-old Armstrong Creek man and a 48-year-old Bell Post Hill man were allegedly loitering near a business on St Georges Road about 9.20pm, when police were called.

Leading Senior Constable Jody Clayton said patrols were conducted around the area and the two men were located hiding inside the yard.

“A search of the men allegedly revealed they were in possession of tools used for the theft of copper and other fittings,” Senior Constable Clayton said.

The Armstrong Creek man was charged with attempted theft, going equipped to steal, trespass and possess a drug of dependence, and will appear at Geelong Magistrate’s Court on November 19.

He also had an outstanding warrant for unrelated matters.

The second man, from Bell Post Hill, was released pending further inquiries.
