A Mount Duneed man who was allegedly busted with 13 guns, and is accused of selling another to undercover police, has been denied bail and labelled an unacceptable risk to the community.

Jed Jeanes, 28, was remanded in custody following a bail hearing at Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday and will return at a later date to face charges of trafficking in a commercial amount of drugs of dependence and possessing 13 firearms, including two imitation guns.

The court heard Mr Jeanes’ Mount Duneed home was searched in June after he allegedly sold at least two litres of 1-4 Butanol, also known as GBL, and a 12-gauge pump action shotgun to police.

In denying him bail, Magistrate Simon Guthrie said it was a “serious example, in my opinion, of the (alleged) offending” and was concerned 11 firearms allegedly found in his home were “all in working order”.

“You are an unacceptable risk of committing (further) offences while on bail and endangering the safety and welfare of the public,” he said.

In addition to the firearms, police allegedly found more than 300 rounds of ammunition, various firearm accessories and knives.

They also allegedly located 17.6g of cannabis, 20-30g of magic mushrooms, 90g of methamphetamine and 2031g of GBL.

At the bail hearing earlier this week, Sergeant Dale Menzies told the court he “can’t think of a job where we have come across that many firearms in one search”.

Commonwealth prosecutor Sharon Kermath added police had to “cut the investigation short” and searched Mr Jeanes’ home earlier than planned “because of a fear he posed to the community”.

Ms Kermath said Mr Jeanes’ behaviour was “high risk”.

“These weapons, if not found, would be in our community. These are serious matters and no bail conditions nor surety could be imposed on the applicant that could reduce any risks,” Ms Kermath said.

Mr Jeanes’ mother said she became aware of the full extent of the charges on Wednesday but submitted he has serious mental health concerns and “there’s no help out there unless you’ve got money”.

Mr Jeanes was allegedly found to be in possession $50,000 in cash and had sold officers the gun for $7000.
