A Mount Duneed man was allegedly found with more than 13 guns during a major police sting, with one officer labelling it the largest firearms seizure he had seen.

On top of the 13 firearms, including two imitation guns, police allegedly found more than 2000g of drugs at the home of Jed Jeanes.

During the police investigation, Mr Jeanes also allegedly sold a firearm and several litres of drugs to two undercover operatives.

Sergeant Dale Menzies said he “can’t think of a job where we have come across that many firearms in one search”.

Mr Jeanes applied for bail at the Geelong Magistrates Court on Wednesday after he was charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs of dependence and possessing firearms.

Magistrate Simon Guthrie reserved the decision to consider all the material and will return on Friday.

The court heard Mr Jeanes met two strangers in May and took them up on their offer to drive him home.

The men, both undercover police operatives, allegedly asked Mr Jeanes if he could supply them with 3.5g of methamphetamine and claimed the 28-year-old man said he probably could.

While Mr Jeanes allegedly told them he could not secure methamphetamine, he invited the officers inside his home and showed them a bottle of 350ml of 1-4 butanol, also known as GBL.

During a house tour, Mr Jeanes allegedly told them he had firearms hidden under his bed and in his wardrobe, approximately $50,000 in cash and a 50l container full of what he allegedly said was GBL.

He allegedly gifted the officers 50ml of GBL for the lift home.

The next month, Mr Jeanes allegedly met the officers again after he agreed over the phone to sell them one litre of GBL.

Mr Jeanes allegedly sold the officers 2l of GBL for $5500 and agreed to sell them a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun for $7000.

During the alleged sale, Mr Jeanes was said to have shown the covert operatives several firearms in the boot and the back seat of his car, before taking out a loaded revolver handgun from his jacket.

A week later, on June 27, police executed a search of his home and allegedly found 11 firearms, two imitation firearms, more than 300 rounds of ammunition, various firearm accessories and various knives.

Officers also allegedly found 17.6g of cannabis, 20-30g of magic mushrooms, 90g of methamphetamine and 2031g of GBL from inside the house and Mr Jeanes’ cars.

Commonwealth prosecutor Sharon Kermath said Mr Jeanes was at high risk and posed a “very strong concern” to the community.

“These weapons, if not found, could be in our community,” Ms Kermath said.

“These are serious matters and no bail conditions nor surety imposed on (Mr Jeanes) could reduce any risk.”
