Brian Burr jailed for 14 days for numerous offences including damaging cop cars

A homeless man was verbally aggressive while carrying a knife in a shopping centre carpark and later damaged multiple police cars.

Brian Burr pleaded guilty in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday to charges including criminal damage and was jailed for 14 days.

Burr’s lawyer, Ryan Robertson, said his client was mentally unwell and homeless.

Burr was in the carpark at Woolworths in Geelong West on April 1 and was reported to be carrying a knife and being verbally aggressive.

The court heard Burr was muttering “I’m going to stab you” and was arrested when police arrived.

On February 25, Burr was in Woolworths in Corio and attempted to leave the store with three bags full of groceries without paying.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Laura Wood said Burr was confronted by a staff member, who Burr then punched in the wrist.

On April 12, Burr lit a bin on fire in Corio, and on April 15 and April 17, gained entry into a Department of Families, Fairness and Housing house that he had been evicted from.

On April 24, Burr went to police because he wanted somewhere to stay the night, and while on his way to the police station, he damaged a number of cars by breaking their windshields.

Constable Wood said Burr was asked to leave the police station, and when he left the area, he further damaged a number of vehicles, which included police cars

Magistrate Franz Holzer jailed Burr for two weeks and said Burr was generally co-operative, however had “escalating behaviours” he couldn’t control.
