A concreter did a burnout in front of cops, crashed into a Grovedale resident’s home and yelled “I’m f----d” before doing a runner from the scene.

Jacob Reynolds, 26, pleaded guilty in the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Friday to driving over the legal prescribed alcohol limit and failing to stop on police direction.

Reynolds was at a friend’s home in Grovedale in the early hours of July 2 last year before he left following an altercation.

After leaving the premises in a friend’s car, the court heard Reynolds performed a “burnout”, however, this was observed by police.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Andrew Clapham said the car which Reynolds was driving also had false number plates.

Constable Clapham said police activated their lights in order for Reynolds to pull over, however, he immediately accelerated.

Moments later, Reynolds collided with a parked vehicle and then collided with the front structure of a victim’s home which caused “extensive damage”.

A witness who was at the scene saw Reynolds “do a runner” from the area and observed Reynolds yell “I’m f----d” before leaving the scene.

Reynolds then waved down the police and told them he had just crashed his mate’s wife’s car and had been drinking.

The court heard Reynolds returned a reading of 0.089 and was placed in hospital for a week after suffering facial injuries as a result of the crash.

Reynolds’ lawyer said his client did not stop on police direction because “he simply panicked”.

“He fled the vehicle, but waved police down and made full admissions,” the lawyer said.

He also told the court Reynolds had broken his nose and split his head open as a result of the incident.

Magistrate John Lesser sentenced Reynolds to an adjourned undertaking with conviction and disqualified him from driving for six months and also fined him $2500.

“Clearly not a great incident to say the least,” Mr Lesser said.

“You got injured but you were lucky you weren’t more seriously injured, and more importantly, that no one else was injured.

“It would have been in much more serious territory if that had been the case.

“I accept that you’ve taken some efforts to rectify your situation.

“Overall it was a very poor effort all around and whilst you’re still young, you’re old enough to know what’s right and what’s wrong and you chose a bad course of action on that day.”
